At G7 meeting, a UK official says its ‘unlikely’ the evacuation deadline will be extended.

Dozens of countries are pitching in to help speed up evacuations from Kabul as the Taliban threatens “consequences” if foreign nations stay in Afghanistan past the August 31 deadline.

A Taliban spokesman says the U.S. must complete its evacuation of people from Afghanistan by the Aug. 31 date the Biden administration set for the withdrawal of all U.S. troops. The Taliban say they will accept “no extensions” to the deadline.

President Joe Biden is expected to decide soon on extending an Aug. 31 deadline to airlift Americans and their allies to safety from Afghanistan. A Taliban official said foreign forces had not sought an extension and it would not be granted if they had.
