Officials in Victoria are providing a COVID-19 update

Students in Year 3 and above are now required to wear a fitted face mask while in the classroom or otherwise indoors at all Victorian schools. It is also strongly recommended for students in Prep/Foundation through to Year 2 to stop the spread of COVID-19 but is not compulsory.

Children and young people are far more likely to catch or spread the COVID-19 Delta variant than previous strains. Statistics show that children and young people 0-19 years make up 22% of COVID-19 cases in Victoria this year.

The number of Victorians in hospital with COVID-19 has jumped 10% in 24 hours. 620 Victorians are now battling COVID-19 in hospital, an increase of 56 since yesterday, with 114 in ICU and 76 on a ventilator.
