FDA advisers on Tuesday voted in favor of granting emergency use authorization for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine

The FDA authorized the Pfizer vaccine for elementary school-aged children aged 5 to 11 on Tuesday. The decision comes after the agency reviewed data released by Pfizer on Friday, October 22, that showed a kid-sized, two-dose regimen of the company’s COVID-19 vaccine is safe and 90.7% effective against symptomatic illness from the virus in children ages 5 to 11 years of age.

Pfizer and BioNTech released new data showing their vaccine was 90.7% effective at preventing symptomatic Covid-19 in a study of children 5 to 11 years old. The companies said the vaccine was found to be safe and tolerable.

Children are at lower risk of having serious side effects from COVID-19, but those serious consequences do occur. Officials note that vaccination both dramatically reduces those chances and will reduce the spread of the delta variant.

What people are saying?

Jason Farrell Awesome. Now just need approval for <5 so we can vaccinate my 3yr old son. Personally, I am still waiting for my vaccination to grant me Magneto-like powers as I was told by QAnon. That I can not yet move metal objects with my mind is very disappointing.

Vicki J. I can’t wait for my 17 month old to be eligible. He was born in May 2020 and I don’t know what it’s like to be a parent that isn’t worried about my baby getting COVID. He has NEVER been to a mall or eaten inside of a restaurant.
