Kim Jong Un has ordered cities across the country to lockdown after North Korea reported its first COVID-19 case

North Korea officially announced its first case of COVID-19 on Thursday morning, confirming it is of the omicron variant. Leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to overcome the “unexpected crisis” by implementing a nationwide lockdown as a “maximum emergency” virus control system.

In response to North Korea’s first announced COVID-19 outbreak, leader Kim Jong Un called for a lockdown of cities and counties and said workplaces should be isolated by units to block the virus from spreading, state media reported.

North Korea confirms its first-ever case of Covid and declares a “severe national emergency”, with Kim Jong Un vowing to “eliminate” the virus. Experts believe North Korea has not vaccinated its 25 million people, having rejected offers to supply vaccines.
