Pfizer is not part of Operation Warp Speed, Pfizer senior vice president says

Dr. Kathrin Jansen, Pfizer head of vaccine development, told The New York Times that Pfizer was never a part of Operation Warp Speed and that the company has not “taken any money from the US government, or from anyone.” Operation Warp Speed is the Trump administration’s ongoing effort to accelerate a COVID-19 vaccine rollout. While the company hasn’t taken federal money for research and development, it did strike a $1.95 billion contract with the US government to provide 100 million doses of the vaccine after it is developed.

What you need to know:

– According to Pfizer’s Dr. Kathrin Jansen, the company did not participate in Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration’s ongoing effort to accelerate a vaccine rollout

– White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah responded, saying OWS took steps to assist the company in speeding up production and distribution of the vaccine
– While Pfizer did not take federal money, it did strike a $1.9 billion contract with the US government to provide 100 million effective doses by the end of 2020

As Pence claims credit, Pfizer says it did NOT join in the administration’s partnership. Pfizer head of vaccine development Dr. Kathrin Jansen told the NY Times: “We were never part of the Warp Speed … We have never taken any money from the U.S. government, or from anyone.”

A volunteer in Pfizer’s clinical trial was vaccinated this month at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Pfizer is not part of Operation Warp Speed

Pfizer’s Dr. Jansen sought to distance the company from Operation Warp Speed and presidential politics, noting that the company did not take any federal money to help pay for research and development. “We were never part of the Warp Speed,” she said.

Warp Speed has promised $2 billion to Pfizer to buy doses when they’re ready —an advanced purchase deal. Administration counts this in Warp Speed’s umbrella. But unlike other WS companies, Pfizer did NOT take $ for development.

Some say that Pfizer wasn’t formally part of OWS, the reason it will be able to mass produce 100M doses & distribute them once approved is because of the partnership it struck with HHS & the military supporting distribution logistics.

Three things about Pfizer announcing their Covid-19 vaccine is 90% effective:
1- The flu vaccine peaks at 60% effective
2- the world needs 9 billion+ doses of the vaccine but Pfizer says it can make 1.35 billion end of 2021
3- Pfizer wasn’t part of Trump’s operation warp speed
