Vaccines may need to be updated for better protection against COVID-19 variants including Omicron, WHO says

The World Health Organization’s Technical Advisory Group of COVID-19 Vaccine Composition said on Tuesday that current COVID-19 vaccines may need to be updated to ensure “WHO-recommended levels of protection” against new variants of concern like Omicron.

A technical advisory group established by the World Health Organization said on Tuesday that current COVID-19 vaccines may need to be updated to ensure they are effective against new variants like Omicron.

Research shows the Covid vaccines provide adequate protection against the omicron strain, especially against severe disease, hospitalization and death. But drugmakers say they will continue to work on variant-specific boosters in case they are needed.

What people are saying?

Sweet Violet OK. I’m pro vax, but I’m not just going to keep taking vaccines each time a new variant is discovered. You guys look like you’re winging it now, between this and @CDCgov vacillating on quarantine time. Figure it out. You’re losing people.

Frank Pappas The problem going forward is that those of us who have received multiple rounds of shots are not going to keep running out for the latest round, and those who didn’t receive the vaccine definitely are not reconsidering at this point.
