At least 27 people drowned off the coast of France on Wednesday, after a boat carrying migrants trying to reach Britain capsized in the English Channel. French officials had previously given a death toll of 31, but later revised the figure.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote to French President Emmanuel Macron asking France to immediately start taking back all migrants who land in England after crossing the Channel.
Boris Johnson has written to French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Council President Charles Michel urging for more cooperation with Paris and Brussels on the return of migrants who make the sea journey to England.
What people are saying?
Ian Dear PM. I can confirm that neither yourself or President Macron have done enough to prevent such a catastrophe. Yesterday’s disaster is proof of this. People should be assisted when seeking asylum, not forced to risk their lives to obtain it!
FuturePhysio I’m no fan of how this is being handled by either side but I presume these people have to travel through Europe to get there? So, I often wonder what is the rest of the EU doing to prevent this from happening in the first place?
