North Korea’s state media said on Thursday the country will bolster its military capability against the US and consider resuming “all temporarily suspended activities.” The statement appears to be in reference to a self-imposed moratorium on tests of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.
Following North Korea’s four missile tests, the U.N. Security Council plans to hold another meeting on nuclear nonproliferation. The DPRK hinted this week that it may return to ICBM or nuclear testing, both of which would violate UNSC resolutions.
China and Russia on Thursday blocked a US push to impose United Nations sanctions on five North Koreans in response to recent missile launches by Pyongyang.
What people are saying?
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield Since we last condemned North Korea’s January 5 ballistic missile launch, the regime has conducted three additional launches – all demonstrate the regime’s pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and missile programs at all costs, including at the expense of its own people.
Gecko The UN Security Council needs to be dismantled. It’s outdated and its mechanism clearly doesn’t work when you’re allowed to use “veto” all the time. A resolution process can never begin because you constantly have Russia and China interfering.
