Set in a dance theatre in Lahore, Darling revolves around the story of a young boy and a trans girl. It’s logline says:

“An erotic dance theatre in Lahore prepares for a new show just as a sacrificial goat goes missing, a dreamy trans girl vies for the spotlight, and a naive young boy falls in love.”

The Orizzonti Award runs parallel to the Golden Lions at the festival and this year 19 feature films and 13 short films were screened in this section.

Last year another short film by Sadiq, Nice Talking To You, had won the Best Director Award at the Columbia University Film Festival.

‘Darling’ actress Mehar Bano shared on Instagram:

“We are beyond excited to announce that our film “Darling” is going to have its World Premiere at the 76th Venice Film Festival. I am thrilled to have worked as an actor in the first Pakistani film to screen at the world’s oldest film festival. @saim.sadiq take a bow”.

The director of the film Saim Sadiq is a young emerging filmmaker and is currently completing his graduate degree in film directing from Columbia University in New York.

Saim Sadiq is currently developing a pilot for MakeReady in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, he is working on his first feature film, ‘Gulaab’, which was selected for the Open Doors Hub at the 2018 Locarno Film Festival.
