The fatal attack on Conservative MP Sir David Amess has re-ignited concerns for the safety of elected representatives.

Following the death of Conservative MP Sir David Amess, who was stabbed while holding a constituent surgery on Friday, Home Secretary Priti Patel has ordered an immediate review of MPs security arrangements.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has asked all police forces to review security arrangements for MPs “with immediate effect” following Sir David Amess’ killing. It’s five years since Jo Cox was murdered in her Yorkshire constituency.

Conservative MP David Amess was stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery in Essex on Friday. Police said that one man is in custody in connection with the incident.

What people are saying?

Susan C Wilson And their staff. I’ve worked in constituency offices, and they aren’t the safest places. Not sure what the solution is. Politicians, their staff, their offices and surgeries need to be accessible, but it comes at a risk when you’re often dealing with angry and unwell people.

Stoker I’ll wait until full story is revealed before i comment further but this seems a strange one as the perpetrator was arrested at the scene. He made no attempt to escape, could possibly mean he’s connected to the victim in some way.
