South African novelist Wilbur Smith has died at the age of 88. More than 140-million copies of about some 49 adventure stories have been sold around the globe. Smith was born in Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia.

Internationally acclaimed author Wilbur Smith died at his home in South Africa on Saturday after a decades-long career in writing, his office said. He was 88.

WilburSmith, a bestselling author who wrote dozens of adventure novels, has died at age 88 at his home in Cape Town, South Africa.
