Jon Gruden resigned as the coach of the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday. He had denounced the emergence of women as referees, the drafting of a gay player and the tolerance of players protesting during the national anthem, a review of his emails showed.
“I have resigned as Head Coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.”
Jon Gruden, the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, in 2011 used racist terms to denounce DeMaurice Smith, the executive director of the NFL Players Association, who is Black and is now facing opposition within the union to the extension of his contract.
What people are saying?
Cathryn Maya He wasn’t even coaching at the time. This makes me sad. It’s like we’re all a glass menagerie right now and the slightest breeze fractures our fragile beings. And Urban Meyer keeps his job? I guess grinding in a coed is ok.
RVSolomon You do understand that RESIGNING means he chose to leave, right? I’m sure he was going to get the most out of a 70% Black team after that. I’m sure they don’t care at all.
