Flights from South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini and Zimbabwe will be suspended from Friday and all six countries will be added to the red list, after the discovery of a new Covid variant which one official called the “worst one we’ve seen”.
The U.K. will temporarily ban flights from six African countries and place travellers into quarantine over concerns about a new, dramatically different variant of Covid-19.
While the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) investigates the new COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529 that was identified on Tuesday, it has placed six African countries on its red list, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid said on Thursday.
What people are saying?
Grant It’s actually because people are not getting vaccinated that the virus is still spreading even faster. At least the vaccinated will not get seriously Ill as well, wake up.
Ngwenya I see a hidden agenda on the ban ,hope its not because those countries provides the bulk of nurses the NHS have . By putting those countries on red list might be just an indirect way of saying don’t go to your countries for the festive season holidays to the NHS nurses.
