The UK government says it will summon the French ambassador after a Scottish boat was detained off the French coast, amid an escalating row over post-Brexit fishing rights between the two nations.
Britain condemned France’s seizure of a British fishing boat in French waters and warned Paris against further retaliation in a rapidly deteriorating row over post-Brexit fishing rights.
James Withers, chief exec of Scotland Food and Drink, says he hopes Britain and France will reach a resolution over the next few days after fresh tensions over the post-Brexit fishing row have emerged.
What people are saying?
richard sumner The French can be VERY BELLIGERENT & not only do we rely on the Dover-Calais route for significant trade but there’s the migrant issue & power for Jersey. Had post-Brexit relations been CONSTRUCTIVE, banning only drag net fishing & issuing more licenses then we’d fair better!
Born_realist All diplomatic ties with France should immediately be removed and British warships should be deployed to stop any French trawlers from entering our waters irrespective of whether they have a licence or not.
