The UN Security Council is set to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine

The UN Security Council (UNSC) met on Thursday to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine. Several countries, including the US and UK, requested the session in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation. The UNSC is anticipated to vote on a “Russian-drafted call for aid access and civilian protection in Ukraine” on Friday.

Western countries attending a UN Security Council meeting have condemned Russia for destroying a theater in the eastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol, where civilians were taking shelter.

The UN Security Council renewed the assistance mission to Afghanistan for another year. Russia abstained from voting, calling out the mission’s renewal for “stubborn ignorance of the new realities” of Taliban rule.
