Actor James Michael Tyler died of prostate cancer at 59, his manager announced in a statement on Sunday. He was most known for his role as Gunther, the Friends’ omnipresent Central Perk barista and the “seventh friend.” Tyler was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, but he only revealed it publicly in an interview with NBC’s Today Show in June this year.
James Michael Tyler, known for his role as Gunther, the “Central Perk” manager, on the hit TV show Friends, was 59 and had been fighting cancer for over three years. Tyler was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2018 during a routine checkup.
Jennifer Aniston has led the tributes to her “Friends” co-star James Michael Tyler following his death, saying the show “would not have been the same” without him.

Barbara Fernandez Oh! This is so sad! My dad thankfully listened to me and got a second opinion. If he hadn’t he might not be here now. Listen to your loved ones. Get check ups. Don’t wait. Get second opinion if told to wait and see. May he Rest In Peace.
Philip Wigham 1 of my all time favourite characters on friends and probably the most underrated actors of all time. Think of central perk and you think gunther. Could you be any more loved. RIP thank you for the memories.
