The City of Aurora will pay $15 million to the family of Elijah McClain to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit filed over his death in 2019. Aurora police assaulted McClain on his walk home, put him in a chokehold and injected him with ketamine.

The city of Aurora, Colo., has agreed to pay $15 million to the family of Elijah McClain, 23, a Black man who died after being stopped by police, manhandled and drugged. His family had filed a civil rights lawsuit.
