Fact-checkers say media is permitted at Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial

Fact-checkers say that media has not been banned and there is no “gag order” for the sex trafficking trial of Ghislaine Maxwell. While cameras are prohibited, as is standard for federal courtrooms, members of the media and public are allowed to attend and report on the trial.

Social media users falsely claimed the press has been barred from Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex trafficking trial. But reporters are allowed inside the courtroom, and while the trial will not be televised, that is standard in federal courts.

Contrary to posts on social media, the judge presiding over the Ghislaine Maxwell trial has not issued a gag order. Posts are also sharing months-old news about the judge granting a request for redaction.

What people are saying?

TryingToBeImpartial I don’t think people are saying no media is allowed maybe they are I haven’t seen it. The issue people have is there being cameras allowed. Shows how little people trust the media and in a lot of cases rightly so. I don’t want to hear someone’s perspective on the trial.

Farty McPoops This actually makes it much worse that most of the press is avoiding talking about this trial. At least if they were banned they’d have an excuse. But I get it, they don’t want to end up dead too so it’s best to let it go by unnoticed and not ask many questions.
