More than 1,000 manatees in Florida have died this year

More than 1,000 manatees in Florida have died this year, a new report has confirmed this week. It’s the highest recorded number of manatee deaths in decades.

Florida and feds set up emergency team after deaths of more than 1,000 manatees this year. Four years ago, the feds agreed to downlist manatee from endangered to threatened.

The number of dead Florida manatees this year has risen to more than 1,000. Congressional lawmakers are hoping to bypass current regulations to get the mammal immediately relisted as endangered.

What people are saying?

Mulawarman Nope, IIRC it’s related to climate change or pollution. The coast seawater became warmer or polluted and the sea foliages (the primary and only food for manatees, i don’t know what’s its called) is not suited to that kind of environment, it dies and disappear completely.

FlaGaGirl There’s also more manatee than there has been in decades. This is a life cycle. I’m all for keeping the water clean especially in Florida. We have many issues. Red tide. Algae bloom. Etc. But let’s put some perspective on it. Stop using pesticides and fertilizer in abundance.
