Rachel Levine made history by becoming the first ever openly transgender four-star US officer

Dr. Rachel Levine made history on Tuesday when she was sworn in as an admiral to the US Public Health Service. “I am honored to serve as the first female four-star officer of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the first openly transgender four-star officer to serve across any of the eight uniformed services,” Levine said at the swearing-in ceremony.

Dr. Rachel Levine, the nation’s most senior transgender official, made history again Tuesday by becoming the first openly transgender four-star officer across any of the country’s eight uniformed services.

Rachel Levine will be sworn as the nation’s first openly transgender four-star officer. Her new role puts her at the forefront of deploying a public health workforce in demand more than ever due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What people are saying?

ADM Rachel Levine I am deeply honored & grateful to join the ranks of men & women across this great nation who have committed to defend the United States against small & large threats, known and unknown. I promise to uphold that trust to the fullest extent of my abilities.

Jason K Wait, I’m genuinely confused…Was she in the US Navy or something? Was she a captain? What is she the admiral of? I thought there were only 5 branches of the armed forces (Space Force as six)… Where did these other ones come from?
