The US Department of Justice announced on Friday that it is filing a lawsuit against the state of Georgia

The Justice Department is suing Georgia over the state’s voting laws, two weeks after AG Merrick Garland said the Department would scrutinize a wave of new laws in Republican-controlled states that tighten voting rules.

“Today, the Department of Justice is suing the state of Georgia,” alleging “changes to Georgia’s election laws were enacted with the purpose of denying or abridging the right of Black Georgians to vote on account of their race or color.”

The Justice Department is suing the state of Georgia over its new voting law, alleging the law is intended to restrict ballot access to Black voters.

Fly on the wall
It’s right in front of our face and yet 30 percent of the white race denies that racism exists. These same 30 percent are also trying to undermine our democracy.

Tom Quartz About freaking time! Bring all vote suppressing states to court, see if SCOTUS is consistent with this basic constitutional freedom. Set a legal precedent against suppression, make gerrymandering illegal. Ok, I like to dream. If not, we may see the fur fly over SCOTUS packing!
