Up to 10 people entered a Home Depot in California on Friday night and left with a range of stolen tools

The organized smash-and-grab robbers who’ve targeted mostly high-end stores in California in recent weeks struck again last night. Police say about 20 thieves stormed a Home Depot and walked off with sledgehammers and bolt cutters. A luxury fashion store was also robbed.

At least eight men entered a Home Depot store in California and stole hammers, sledgehammers and crowbars Friday night, prompting concerns about another smash-and-grab incident in the area, authorities said.

The theft comes as similar tools have been used in a number of smash-and-grab robberies at high-end stores in several major US cities this month.

What people are saying?

Pope of Chili Town Big retailers are trying to stoke a crime panic to bolster political support for stationing cops at stores, essentially offloading their loss-prevention operation to the public.

Doug Kennon
Do you understand that we the customer pays for this. 15% added to the price to cover theft. The consumer ultimately pays for the theft. Kind of like insurance fraud. We all pay for it.
