An adviser to the Ukrainian presidential office, Mykhailo Podolyak said on Thursday that Russian troops have captured the Chernobyl power plant, the site of one of the world’s worst nuclear accidents. The plant is located approximately 60 miles (97 km) north of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
Ukraine says it has lost control of the Chernobyl nuclear site after a fierce battle with Russian troops. Chernobyl was the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster in 1986.
Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Twitter that Russian forces were trying to seize Chernobyl, the site of the worst nuclear accident in history. “This is a declaration of war against the whole of Europe,” he said.
What people are saying?
mikumyhoney Hey, they are not there to destroy Chernobyl, and remember, it was the Russian people who saved the world from the accident. Although it was also their fault that the accident happened, they took the responsibility and used their life to stop the spread.
